Sturgeon County is situated directly north of the provincial capital city of Edmonton and the city of St Albert.
Spanning 2,100 square kilometers (810 square miles), Sturgeon County is a mixture of high quality agricultural land, rural acreages, multi-lot subdivisions, and desirable communities. Just over 19,500 people make their home in Sturgeon County, a number that has grown by 17% over the past 10 years.
Business in the county is booming. In fact, in 2011 Alberta Venture Magazine named Sturgeon County one of the top 25 best communities for business in Western Canada. The Sturgeon Industrial Park offers over 160 hectares (400 acres) of serviced land and 320 hectares (800 acres) of raw land, ideal for any size of business seeking land for light industrial use. In 2010, the county issued over $96 million worth of building permits with over $18 million of that for industrial development, adding to the already prosperous and thriving economic environment. Major employers in the county include the Canadian Forces Edmonton Garrison Military Base, Sturgeon School Division, and Agrium.
The residents of Sturgeon County enjoy a high quality of life, with access to natural areas, equestrian facilities, and sports fields at Cardiff Park. Spread across the county, eleven golf courses present a challenge to both novice and experts alike. Agri-tourism in Sturgeon County has become a popular affair, providing u-pick farms, horseback riding stables, corn mazes, and educational farm tours. In fact, a small group of agri-tourism operators in the county were the originators of Country Soul Stroll, a "u-drive tour" through the countryside. Their vision turned into an award winning tour, which is now in its sixth season and includes over 40 sites in Sturgeon and adjacent Counties.
