Strathcona County is situated adjacent to the City of Edmonton, directly east of the province's capital.
The county encompasses 1,265 square kilometres (488 square miles) and is Alberta’s fourth largest municipality in terms of population. The population is just over 92,400 - over 27,700 individuals live in the Rural Service Area and over 64,700 individuals reside in the Urban Service Area of Sherwood Park.
