The advantage of potential

Nearly fifteen years ago, Alberta’s Industrial Heartland Association was created by a group of likeminded municipalities with one main goal: to ensure coordinated, safe, and environmentally sound development of the Heartland region. Since joining forces in 1998, our municipal partnership has built awareness and promoted the Heartland to thousands of investors, business and government leaders, local organizations, and community residents.

Our region’s natural advantages makes our role in promoting the Heartland that much easier. Consider the access to feedstock, well developed nearby service and supply sectors, established road, rail, and pipeline transportation networks, educated and skilled labour force, proximately to one of the world’s most abundant sources of energy, and an existing cluster of world-class companies.

However, there is one very important advantage you won’t find listed in reports, on websites, or within brochures: POTENTIAL. Combine all the physical and logistical advantages, and the potential of the Heartland region is both obvious and limitless. Potential is actually one of our biggest advantages and a reason why companies from around the globe have their eye on the Heartland. This includes potential and opportunity for additional innovative industrial development, leading edge technology, beneficial relationships with stakeholders, environmental firsts, and prosperous communities.

The potential for enhancing value-added industries in particular deserves further attention. Alberta is home to some of the world’s leading businesses in oil and gas, petrochemical, agriculture, and manufacturing sectors. Many of these companies are already pursing value-added opportunities, like Williams Energy Canada, who recently announced plans to build a new propane dehydrogenation facility. The facility is designed to convert propane into higher-value propylene and will be the first and only of its kind in Canada.

Promoting further value-added activities within all sectors is a priority for our Association. In the coming weeks, along with industry, community, and other municipal leaders, we are launching a campaign promoting this very topic – Alberta Energy Plus. We hope you join in supporting our efforts.
